Visitor's Corner
For our guests—what to expect? We know that it is not easy visiting a church for the first time. You may feel out of place, or you may be asking yourself questions like:
Do I belong here?
Are they going to make me give money?
Are the people going to friendly to me and/or my family?
What if I don't like it here, can I leave?
Is there something for my kids to do here?
What should I wear?
All of these questions and more can be going through your mind when visiting a church for the first time. Here at Altamahaw Baptist Church we like to make you feel welcome and we like to acknowledge you as our guest, as you come to worship with us.
We usually like for our guests to remain seated while our home folks stand and our guests slip their hands up about halfway so our ushers can get a visitors card in your hand so we can touch base with you and let you know that it was good to have you for worship. Our Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. We have a class for every age! It is a time to learn more about Jesus Christ on a more personal level. It is also a time to meet other people who are also there to grow in knowledge and God's grace.
At 11:00 a.m. we have our Sunday morning worship service. It usually begins with a welcome, followed by a hymn or praise song. We then have a short five minute children's sermon for all children up front. The children who are in school stay upstairs in the sanctuary while the little ones head downstairs for children's church. We then have a congregational hymn followed by a choir song that usually involves some sort of special solo part. Following the choir song we take up the offering.
We don't expect our guests to participate in the weekly offering. We want you to feel welcome without pressuring you to give. You will notice our regualr members placing their contributions in the offering plate which helps our church reach its financial responsibilites. If you continue to attend our church, you will know when the time is right to join us in giving. The offering is followed by a prayer and a time of special music that prepares your heart for worship. Then our Pastor delivers the message. The message usually lasts anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. There will be times you will laugh, times you will cry and times you will feel a tug at your heart. A time of invitation is given after worship for you to get on your knees before God and pray. During this time of invitation our Pastor will be waiting to pray with you if you feel the need to do so.
Church is all about God and worshiping, but it is also about making relationships with other people that will last a lifetime. People who are friendly, kind and will help in the time of need. We hope that when you attend Altamahaw Baptist Church that you will feel the warmth and friendliness of a God centered church and enjoy your visit.
